TOYS
These little dogs were bred simply for companionship. Although the dogs in this group all share the common trait of being small and generally of having a big-dog-attitude, their characteristics are a little more diverse. Many Toy dogs are sturdier and stronger than they appear, but special care is needed if you use physical correction training. And even though we tend to overly spoil these little dogs, no special pampering is required for them to stay healthy and content. If raised properly, Toys can be quite friendly and compliant house dogs.
The Toy dog breeds include the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel which served as companions and lap warmers, the Chihuahua which tends to be a one-person-dog, the Pekingese which were known as “lion dogs” in Buddhism, and the Pug which is descended from mastiffs.
