MISCELLANEOUS
This page includes other dog breeds which we have heard of and may or may not belong to any known breed club. It also includes the All-American dogs, also known as mutts.
The miscellaneous breeds also include dogs in the AKC Miscellaneious Class which hold a nationwide interest and have and active breed club with serious interest in expanding the breed. The dogs in this category will most likely be moved to one of the other seven AKC categories within 3-5 years once other requirements are met. As of 2008, the dogs in this class include the Dogue de Bordeaux which may be a descendant of the mastiff, the Irish Red and White Setter which were once more popular than the red Irish Setter, the Norwegian Buhund which were once companions on the Viking ships, the Pyrenean Shepherd which were sometimes used with the Great Pyrenees in herding, the Redbone Coonhound which were bred from the Red Irish Foxhounds, and the Swedish Vallhund which was used for multiple purposes including herding cattle, watchdog, farm dog, and for hunting vermin.
